Adventure Inc - Episode 03 - Beyond the Missing Link

Overview: The Adventure Inc. team protects the valuable mummified remains of an ancient man who was rumored to have lived an extraordinarily long life and is one of paleontology's great treasures.

Synopsis by Tribune 2003

Travis Bledsoe (Marty Moreau), who sells antiquities on the black market, hires Adventure Inc. to act as the intermediaries in transferring the mummified remains of an ancient man named Sunda Man. Just as the transaction is taking place, they are mysteriously attacked and Bledsoe is murdered.

After a narrow escape, the team investigates and finds that Sunda Man was discovered by Dr. Emil Halpern in 1920 and his son and grandson have been studying the remains ever since. They meet with the present day Halpern (John Ralston) and who begs the crew to turn the remains over to him for scientific study.

The team is followed after their meeting with Halpern and are attacked again. Shockingly, Mackenzie (Karen Cliche) is killed and the case containing Sunda Man is accidentally knocked into the sea.

At Mackenzie's funeral, Judson (Michael Biehn) is approached by an officer (Richard Zeppieri) and an antiquities buyer, Caroline Caldwell (Tracy Shreve), as well as Halpern -- all are acting suspicious. Judson knows something is awry. Later, back on The Vast Explorer, we discover that Mackenzie is actually alive. Her death was staged in order to identify the attackers who they believe are after Sunda Man.

As Sunda Man is retrieved from the sea, the mysterious attackers return. In the midst of the fight, one of them is killed and right in front of the crew, he transforms into a mummy. Returning to the boat, the police, along with Caldwell, confiscate the remains of Sunda Man. Knowing something is wrong, Judson and his team later steal the case back and try to fool the police by switching the real case with a fake one. However, they are arrested.

After being released from jail, the Adventure Inc. team is attacked again by the mysterious men. Another attacker is killed and the crew witnesses another sudden mummification of the dead body. While conducting a background check on Halpern, via photos, the team discovers that the father, son and grandson are all the same person. As they realize this, Halpern appears, along with the mysterious men. He explains how he has been injecting himself, and his men, with a serum created from Sunda Man. The serum helps them to live a long life and Halpern needs the remains of Sunda Man to make more serum. Realizing that Halpern wants all the glory for himself, Judson turns Halpern's men against him. After a struggle, the police arrive and take Halpern and his men into custody. Sunda Man is anonymously donated to a university's anthropological research lab.
