Adventure Inc - Episode 08 - Magic of the Rain Forest

Overview: The Adventure Inc. team searches a village in the South American rainforest for a kidnapped anthropologist.

Synopsis by Tribune 2003

Life Insurance broker Karl Aurbacher (David Talbot) hires Judson Cross, Gabriel Patterson and Mackenzie Previn to find one of his clients who has been kidnapped and is being held for ransom. The kidnapped victim is none other than world famous anthropologist, Victoria Brattan (Nahanni Johnston) who was once Judson's girlfriend. Victoria lives in a village in the rain forests of San Cristobal with the Saro, who are believed to be very dangerous and able to cheat death.

Before the Adventure Inc. team departs for San Cristobal, Carlos Carmona (Noam Jenkins) and his men tell them to stay away from the village and not to attempt to find Victoria. Ignoring the warning, the trio and their guide Manuel (Peter Didiano) enter the Saro rainforest. Manuel becomes frightened by the rustling in the brush and begins firing his pistol. In turn, he is hit by a dart fired by one of the Saro men and dies. A team of Saro tribesmen come out of the brush and Faran (Kyle Saunders), a young 'spiritsinger', rubs herbs on Manuel's dart wound and calls on the spirits to bring him back to life. Manuel awakens and is healed. Mackenzie figures that the poison in the dart may have been a puffer fish toxin that makes a living person seem dead and the antidote was probably in the herbs that Faran rubbed on the wound.

Faran tells Judson, Mackenzie and Gabe that Victoria adopted him as her son when his parents died, and helped the villagers in their fight against the lumber companies and South American government to save the rainforest. The trio goes to Victoria's hut and finds fresh, half-eaten food on Victoria's desk, which they deem suspicious. They speculate that the Saro are trying to make it appear as though she was kidnapped. They venture into the jungle and all of a sudden, gunshots break out and Victoria emerges. They realize that Carlos Carmona and his men are the gunmen. Faran hits Carmona with a dart and they tie him up on the Vast Explorer.

Victoria explains that the kidnapping was staged because the government gave the Saro six months to come up with a down payment before they cut down the rainforest. Faran revives Carmona to find out why he was trying to kill them. Carmona confesses that Karl Aurbacher hired the Adventure Inc. team to rescue Victoria because he didn't want to pay the ransom. Carmona was hired to kill Victoria if they failed to rescue her first.

As Judson and Victoria spend time together, their romance rekindles. However, they also realize that the reason they are no longer together is because they both want to follow their passions in life. Meanwhile, Carmona's men come in and rescue Carmona, and a fight between them and the Adventure Inc. team ensues. A dart accidentally hits Victoria and Carmona and his men get away, dragging Faran with them. Gabriel and Mackenzie grab their guns and chase after them. Judson notices Faran's package of herbs is left behind in the struggle and rubs them on Victoria's wound. She does not respond to the herbs, so Judson calls on the spirits to save her and she finally opens her eyes. Faran escapes from Carmona and runs to the Vast Explorer thinking it is too late to save Victoria, and is shocked when he sees that she is alive. Because Carmona and Aurbacher think she is dead, her beneficiary will receive one million dollars and the rainforest will be saved. Faran, confused about how Victoria is still alive, explains to Judson that he used the wrong herbs. The herbs Judson used were for mosquito bites and Faran had the right herbs in his pocket the whole time.
