Synopsis by Tribune 2003
Penelope Sifakis (Emily Roussos), an old friend of Judson's is in the hospital, where her extreme case of delirium is diagnosed as something akin to psylocibin: poison mushrooms. Doomed to death, she pleads Judson for help. The 'Adventure Inc.' team sets out to learn how she contracted the mysterious illness and begins their search by hunting for clues in her office.
Gabe discovers a computer generated nautical map delineating a voyage. Judson says Penelope had a theory that Homer's Odysseus actually existed. The map shows a wandering line that ends on some unknown tiny island.
Judson and the gang set off to the tiny island of Kassos, where they meet Stavros (Paul Bandey), a delusional beggar who claims he is a servant of the gods and was instructed him to help Judson. Judson shows him a photo of Penelope. Stavros claims he's seen her in the local taverna and that she is cursed because she was seeking the Oracle's treasure.
Judson thinks Penelope came to Kassos on the trail of Odysseus but maybe got a clue to something more. Stavros warns him to beware the treasure and the curse of the gods and tells him to be careful of the Spartan warriors as death awaits anyone who crosses them.
At the taverna, Judson asks the establishment's owner, Spiros (Marc Samuel) if he'd ever seen Penelope but he claims he hasn't. Judson and Mac leave to go rent a car while Gabe stays behind to question Serena (Fanny Gilles), the taverna's waitress. Spiros is dismayed at the 'Adventure Inc.' team snooping around. He regrets not having killed Penelope and worries the team will find the cave she's discovered, which is filled with treasures he plans to sell slowly.
On their way to rent a car, Mac and Judson again encounter Stavros -- they implore him to help. He takes them to his ramshackle hovel where in a pile of collected detritus, they find Penny's research diary and discover she had been staying at the taverna.
Penelope's journal indicates that she has found a chamber with wall carvings dating back from Homer's time. The trio set out to investigate where she was last seen. Judson encounters a cavern lined with Doric columns. While admiring the architecture, he is charged by two Spartan warriors. When Mac and Gabe climb join him, they see Judson struggling but cannot see the warriors -- they are visible to Judson only.
Judson orders everyone out. His shirt is covered with greenish-brownish dirt, which was all over the inside of the cavern. Gabe scrapes some off of Judson's shirt and realizes that the substance is a sort of fungus. The trio realizes that when Judson inhaled the fungus spores, he hallucinated the Spartans. This was the same substance that made Penelope ill.
While Judson recovers from inhaling the spores, Spiros and his nephews attack the 'Adventure Inc&' team at the cavern. To take cover from the hail of bullets, they have no other alternative than running back into the cavern, which means inhaling more spores. Gabe however, uses his water purification tablets to create makeshift air filters to help them survive. As they continue down into the cavern, they find the Oracle's treasure.
Mackenzie manages to escape from the cavern through a tiny crevice. Outside, she spots Spiros and his family camped out at the mouth of the cavern. She also spots Nikos, who stands guard at the bottom of the hillside by a truck. She sneaks up on him and knocks him out and then pours gasoline, all over the vehicle. Stavros appears behind her offering a match. The flames catch Spiros' attention -- he runs over along with his nephews. Serena remains at the cave and Mac shoots at her. Suddenly, Spiros and his nephews join in. Realizing Mac is outnumbered, Judson risks jumping out to help. He does so successfully and joins Mac in the shooting and manages to hit one of Spiros' nephews. Soon Spiros realizes he's been outnumbered and outsmarted. He and his team surrender.
Back at the hospital, Penelope has almost completely recovered, thanks to Judson.
