Author's Chapter Notes:

With Bisbee behind him Chris rode in a different direction. He surprised himself when he admitted his destination and continued on his way.

Change of Direction Change of Plans

Chris Larabee stocked his saddlebags with eveything he could think of for a long ride. As he left Bisbee he found he was moving in an eastward direction. He didn't want to admit to himself where he was going. He spent a night sometimes two in small towns along the way. Even now some of them were still feeling the after effects of war. When he got to Missouri he considered stopping at the Withrow Plantation to see Todd Withrow. The young Master of the Plantation and the horseman from Indiana had become fast close friends. He decided not to stop he wanted to avoid a chance meeting with Todd's cousin Ella right at this moment in time.

He rode through Illinois noting that the corn was getting high in the fields. As he arrived at his home town in Indiana he could see his grey stone family home at the end of the street. The door opened and his sister Eileen came running toward him as fast as her legs could carry her. He stopped and leaned down to kiss her cheek.

"Give me a stirrup," she demanded. She then climbed up behind him...astride.

The door opened and his Mother came out onto the front porch. Chris Larabee, gunfighter, bar fighter, railsplitter, rancher, husband and Father finally admitted the truth to himself. He had come home to Indiana.

Chris Larabee wanted his Mother.
