It had been a long day and Sean ought to be sleeping but not this night. He picked up the cup of coffee and took a sip of it. He just stood there staring out the window at the lights below. He told himself that he didn't know what to do. It had been a year since he had admitted Carly to the hospital. Jake had called him at the station with the news that her doctor wanted to send her home to see if she could adjust. Sean worried about how Nick would take it; he had been the target of his mother and the reason she had to be admitted to the hospital.
Then there was his life. He had moved on with it. Max was a big part of it now and then there were the girls. He had to think about Nick too for, his life had changed also. It had taken months of seeing a doctor for Nick to get over what had happen to his mom. Sean still had memories of that night. The call had come over the radio.
Suddenly, he turned away from the window; he had heard a noise. He went to see who it was. The noise was coming from Brianna. She was awake and probably hungry. He picked her up and started for the kitchen but as he turned the corner he ran into Max coming with a bottle.
"Would you like me to feed her?" Max asked Sean.
"No, I can feed her. Maybe it will take my mind off the call from Jake," he replied taking the bottle from Max.
"I know that you're thinking about what Jake said when he called," Max replied.
"That's all I have thought about since Jake called. I know that I can't put Nick through that again," said Sean.
"You know that I'm behind you in whatever you decide to do," replied Max.
"That's just it. I don't know what to do. You and Nick and the girls are my life now," Sean replied, standing up from the sofa.
"Brianna is alseep. Let me lay her down and then we can talk," replied Max, taking her from Sean and going towards the bedroom.
Sean stood there watching Max as she left the room. He knew that she was the one he wanted to be with. He picked up the picture of the girls from the table and looked at it. They were just starting to learn how to do things. They were almost seven months and crawling seemed to be the big thing for them. He smiled as he thought about what they were learning to do.
"Sean, are you all right?" asked Max coming into the living room.
"I was just looking at this picture of the girls. They are getting so big, it seems like yesterday that you brought them home, now look at them," Sean remarked.
"Yes I know, soon they will be too big for this penthouse. I have thought about turning one of the rooms into a playroom for them but the girls are not what's on your mind, is it? You're worried about Carly being released from the hospital," replied Max as she watched Sean moving around the room.
"I don't understand anything going on here. The doctors told me that she would never get any better and that it would be a matter of time before the disease took over brain, and now they say she is well enough to be released and go home," said Sean setting the picture down.
"It doesn't seem possible for her to be better. I was with Jake when the doctors told him that the disease had spread so fast in her brain. They even told him it would only be a matter of time before it took over completely," Max explained grabbing Sean's hand in her hand and holding it.
"I have to meet with Jake tomorrow and Carly's doctor. I can only see what will happen. Jake is going to be staying at the Beach House with me. The doctors want to give her a chance. I want you to know that no matter what happens with her, I can't ever go back to her as a husband. I made a commitment to you and it's going to stay that way," replied Sean putting his arms around Max and kissing her.

The silence of the squad room was broken by the loud talking of Gains and Edwards. They were arguing about how things were going with a case that they were investigating.
"Gains, Edwards, can you get any louder?" yelled Harada coming out of his office.
"Sorry, captain, we didn't know that we were that loud." stated Chris.
"We didn't know we were yelling," replied Danny.
"I could hear you in my office. So how're the cases going?" asked Harada.
"It's not, it's like we have ran into a brick wall. Everyone that we talk to doesn't know anything," said Danny looking frustrated.
"Yeah, we talked to some people who worked in this hotel and they knew the two men who lived there, but when we went back to talk to them, they said that they didn't know the two men who had been murdered. Also we checked to see if anyone else has died there in the last year. Another man was found in his room dead," said Chris.
"Someone has to know something, but they may not want to be involved," replied the captain looking at Chris and Danny.
"Hey captain, I haven't seen Sean this morning. Is he coming in? He got a call from Jake about Carly and he didn't look too happy," said John getting up from his desk.
"He called me, he'll be here in a few minutes, but the case you two were working on has been assigned to officer Tamiya. So you and Linh are working together," replied Harada going into his office.
"I wouldn't want to be in his shoes, no one really knows how Carly will react when she finds out that she and Sean aren't married any more," Chris remarked.
"I know she made it a big deal about being married to Sean," said Linh.

Sean put the last of some clothes into a bag. He wasn't in a very good mood but he would do what Jake had asked, even if only for a little while. He zipped the bag and opened the door and walked into the living room. He set the bag down beside of the front door; he could see that that Max's day had already started. The girls were sitting in highchairs and Max was trying to feed them.
"Do you want some help, with feeding them?" asked Sean walking toward the table.
"If you want to. Miranda hasn't got here yet and the two of them are a handful. Bry has decided that she doesn't like the cereal with bananas and Ari like it, so I need to get something else for Bry to eat," said Max going to the kitchen.
"So you don't like bananas, Bry? That's okay. I don't either," said Sean giving her a kiss on the forehead.
"Here's Bry's bowl, you can feed her since she seems to like you." replied Max handing the bowl to Sean.
"Good Morning Max and Sean. Sorry I'm late. I didn't know what she wanted to do. So I had to take her to several place before I came here. Let me take over feeding the girls, you look like you've had a long night," replied Miranda.
"Sean, I'll walk out with you," said Max with a sad tone in her voice.
"I guess I had better go. I told Jake that I would meet him at the hospital," said Sean going toward the door.
"Is Jake going to be there too?" asked Max following Sean.
"Jake is going to be with us the whole time; he made arrangements for Nick to stay with someone so I wouldn't be alone with her at the Beach House. I will call you and check on you and the girls," replied Sean opening the door.
"You had better, you know how Bryanna gets," said Max.
"Don't you mean how Max gets without me," Sean exclaimed putting his arms around Max and kissing her on the lips.
"Okay, so you know me," said Max kissing Sean.
Sean heard the sound of the elevator as the door opened. He stepped in it and waited for the door to close. The last he saw was Max face as the door closed. He noticed she was starting to cry as the elevator started down.

"Chris, we just a call from that hotel. They think that there's been another murder," replied Kaleo.
"We'll go check it out," remarked Chris as he and Danny left.
"Sean is here," yelled Danny as he went out the door.
Sean walked in the squad room. He went straight to the captain's office. He needed to talk to him about getting some time off.
"Come in Sean, I know why you're here. You said something yesterday about needing some time off for personal reasons. I know all about it. Jake called me. It must be pretty rough on you and I can only imagine how Max is taking it," said Harada.
"She's trying to be brave about it but I know her heart is broken. She's not the only one. I told Jake that I would see how it works out but a part of me is worried that she isn't as well as they think," replied Sean.
"Call me when you're ready to come back. Linh has been assigned to help John with the cases he has. If you need anything, call me," stated Harada.
"Can you do me a favor and check on Max. I know that she has to be hurting. She's not saying it but I can see it in her eyes," said Sean standing up.
"I'll check on her and I'm sure that the others will make sure she's all right, Sean," replied the captain.
"Thanks captain," said Sean walking out of Harada's office.
"Sean, are you alright? You look like your life has been turned around. This must have been a hard blow to take," asked John.
"I don't think Max is okay with this," replied Sean.
"What time are you supposed to meet Jake?" asked John.
"I need to go, I have to be there at nine," said Sean walking out the door.
"Linh, are you coming with me? I need to check out something that Sean and I were working on," replied John.
"Yeah, I'm ready. I feel sorry for what Sean is going through," said Linh following John.
The Sunset Hotel
"This really looks like a classy hotel," said Danny as they drove up the driveway.
"It's not one that you would find tourists staying at," replied Chris getting out of the car.
"Are you telling me that this is a..?" asked Danny getting out of the car.
"You mean is it a part of what we would call the red light. The answer is yes," replied Chris smiling as he got out of the car.
"I suppose that we have to go in there?" Danny asked walking up to the door.
"How are we supposed to investigate these murders, if we don't go inside?" replied Chris following Danny.
"Who are we going to ask in here? No one is going to talk to us. We tried once and it was like no one wanted to talk," replied Danny opening the front door.
"If no one wants to talk to us, then we'll just have to watch the place and see who goes in and out," said Chris walking in the door.
"Alright, how about we start with the desk clerk? He may know who was the last person to see the man alive," stated Danny walking up to the front desk.
"Okay, let's start with the desk clerk. He could possibly know something. He certainly would know who comes and goes," Chris replied.
"Excuse me, I need to ask you some questions? Are you here every day on this desk?" Danny asked the man behind the desk.
"Yeah, I'm here most of the time, but I don't know anything about that man who was murdered. One of the maids found him when she went to clean the room. If you want to talk to her, she'll be here in the morning," said the man on the desk.
"We'll be back in the morning to talk to her," said Chris walking out the door.
"We need to talk to Harper, she should know how he died by now," replied Danny getting in the car.
Honolulu Hospital
Jake was standing in the lobby of the hospital; he was waiting for Sean. He was just as surprised as Sean was by what the doctors had said. He had been there when Sean had to admit his own daughter to the hospital. Carly had been diagnosed with the same disease that her mother had. He had seen with his eyes how it was that night when she had tried to kill her own son. How could he forget? Her own mother had tried to kill Carly and he was told that there was no way that she would recover from it.
"I'm here Jake," said Sean walking in the door.
"I would have never had guessed that she would recover. I'm not sure the doctor is right about this," replied Jake.
"I'm not sure about this either but I told you that I would come and I'll try, but we can never be like before. I've moved on with my life and Nick's. Max is my main concern now and the girls are a part of my life," replied Sean walking toward the doctor's office.
The office of Dr. Hilman
"Come in Jake and Sean. I wanted to talk to you before we go down to Carly's room. I need to know where you are staying now?" asked the doctor.
"I own a Beach House now. So I'll be staying there. Jake is going to be there too. You have to know that Carly and I aren't married anymore. The proceedings had been started before the breakdown and I ask the judge to grant me a divorce because of the circumstances. I had to think of Nick at the time," said Sean.
"I understand Sean. At the time I told you that you needed to go on with your life. We should go to her room now," said the doctor getting up from his desk.
"I don't understand how she could of recovered from the disease when her mother's doctor told me that once she had gone this far, there was no recovering from it?" asked Jake.
"The mind is so complicated we don't know how it works when it breaks down. When you admitted Carly, she had no concept of what she had done. So the mind had already started to block any memory of that night. We have talked about this but she says that she doesn't remember anything, but then I have to wonder if she is telling me the truth or if she doesn't really remember. I need for you to be very careful in what you say," replied the doctor walking down the hallway.
"Then why are you releasing her?" asked Sean.
"Because there isn't any more that we can do for her. It has been a year and we have a seen a change in her. She talks about her son Nick all the time. Is he going to be there with you?" asked Hilman stopping in front of a door.
"No, Nick is staying with family on another Island," said Jake.
"I don't feel comfortable putting him in that kind of situation again," said Sean.
"Here we are at Carly's room. Don't be surprised how she acts toward you. She thinks that she is still married to you, Sean," replied the doctor opening the door to the room.
"Good Morning, Dr. Hilman, I have my things ready," said Carly looking at Sean.
"Carly, your dad and Sean are here to take you home," said the doctor.
"Carly, are you ready to go?" asked Jake walking over to his daughter.
"I'm ready, but where's Nick?" asked Carly.
"He's staying with my sister for the summer," replied Jake.
"Sean, aren't you happy to see me?" She asked.
"I'm glad to see that you're better. Here let me help you," said Sean picking up a bag.
"Carly, you have my number if you need someone to talk to," said the doctor as they walked out of the room.
"I'll be okay now that I have Sean and my dad," said Carly walking down the hallway.
"Jake, we need to go straight to the Beach House. I made sure that we had everything there," Sean replied helping Carly with the door.
"I know this is hard on you," replied Jake talking to Sean.
"You don't know how hard this is for me. I keep thinking about Max and she must be feeling right now," replied Sean getting into the car.

Max stood there staring out the window. All she could think about was Sean leaving. She tried not to cry but it was no use. The tears rolled down her cheeks as she thought about that last night. She had tried to hide how she felt but as she laid there in Sean's arms it was no use. She couldn't hide her feelings from him. He had kissed her and told her that he loved her forever.
"Max, do you want me to stay to night and help with the girls? I don't think you should be alone right now?" asked Miranda
"Would you please. Right now I don't want to be alone," replied Max looking away from the window.
"He'll be back, just you wait and see. He loves you too much," said Miranda.
"I hope that you are right," replied Max looking at Miranda.
Kalani Drive, Sean's Beach House
"Sean, you took the wrong turn, our house isn't on Kalani drive," remarked Carly looking confused.
"We don't live in the other house any more. I sold it and Nick I moved into the Beach House that I own," replied Sean turning into the driveway.
He drove up to the front door and got out of the car. He took the bags out of the trunk, he walked up to the door and opened it. Jake followed with Carly, who just looked around at the house.
"This is your room," replied Sean opening the door to the bedroom. He sat the bags down on the bed as he walked out of the room, he took a pillow and blanket from the closet.
"Sean, are you going to sleep in here too?" asked Carly.
"This is your first night, I can sleep on the sofa," replied Sean laying them down.
"Sean, it's your bedroom too. I don't want to run you out," replied Carly.
"It's all right. I just got use to sleeping alone," Sean replied walking out onto the balcony.
"Dad, what's wrong with Sean, he looks so sad?" asked Carly starting to follow Sean.
"Carly, you have to understand how Sean feels. The doctors told him that there was no way you would recover from the disease that killed your mother. Then the doctors tell us that you have recovered," said Jake.
"What you're trying to say is that Sean has moved on with his life," replied Carly standing in the doorway.
"You need to give him some time to adjust to you being here," replied Jake looking at Sean as he walked on the beach.
He thought about how he felt, standing there looking at the ocean. He was worried about Max, she had to be sad. In a minute his whole life had changed. There was that part of him that still wonder if she had recovered or was she just pretending.
Sean's Beach House
The alarm was going off as Sean slowly sat up on the sofa. He shut the alarm off and started for the kitchen. He poured a glass of juice and started the coffee. He walked out on the balcony to watch the sun come up, then he realized that it was one of the things that he and Max did at the Beach House. He didn't know if he could go through with this. His life now was with Max and the girls, his marriage to Carly was over. Max was his life now.
"Sean, you're up early. You had problems sleeping didn't you?" asked Jake handing the cup of coffee to Sean.
"I don't know if I can do this, Jake. I still have the memories of that night. I can still see the look on Nick's face. His mother tried to kill him," replied Sean.
"I just need you to try okay?" asked Jake.
"I'll try, but I don't know for how long," answered Sean who had picked up the ringing phone.
"It's John, I wasn't going to bother you but when I heard who the missing person was I knew I had to call you. We got a call from Jeff at the hotel, Miranda called him some time after midnight and said that Max was nowhere to be found in the penthouse. Earlier in the evening she found Max crying but Max told her she was okay. When she went to check on her, she found her gone and so is her purse. Jeff says they searched the casino and hotel but she no where to be found," said John.
"I think I know where she is," replied Sean hanging up the phone.
"Sean, what's the matter? You look like your upset?" asked Carly who followed Sean back into the house.
"Jake, I have to report to the station, we have a missing person. It's Max. No one has seen her since last night," said Sean buttoning his shirt.
"You don't think that she would..? Jake asked.
"Why do you have to go?" asked Carly.
"Because the captain wants all of the detectives on this. Kate Maxwell owns the Hawaiian Hotel and Four Aces Casino, so she's someone important," said Sean going out the door.
"Do you have an idea where she is?" asked Jake following Sean.
"Yes, but I'm not sure if she went there," said Sean starting the car and driving off.
Sean turned onto Waukki Road he could only hope that he was right. He turned in to the driveway following it up to the house that sat on the beach. He turned the car off and got out, he started to walk up the steps to the house, pulling out the keys to the house. He opened the door and he knew that Max was here by the sound of the music. Sean walked out on to the balcony where he could see Max walking along the beach. He started to walk toward her, when she looked up to see Sean.
"How did you find me?" asked Max.
"I remembered we talked about buying this house, then I found the keys for it in your night stand. That's how I found you. We need to talk, Max," said Sean.
"There's nothing to talk about," replied Max.
"Yes there is. I should never have agreed to what Jake asked me," said Sean.
"You agreed because Jake asked you. He wanted her to believe that everything was the same as when she left," said Max.
"But it's not the same. I want to be with you, not Carly. I only married her because she said it was my baby," replied Sean reaching for Max's hand.
"For Carly, it's like nothing has changed. In her mind she's still married to you," said Max turning away from Sean.
Sean stood there and watched as Max walked back to the house. He saw the sadness in her eyes and in the sound of voice. He followed her to the house; he only wanted to be with her.
Honolulu Metro Police Dept.
"Gains and Edwards have you found out anything about the murders?" asked Harada.
"We talked to Harper. The autopsy showed that he had been dead for at least 12 hours before the maid found him," said Danny.
"The victim suffered a heart attack that was brought on by the drugs in his body. Harper hasn't identified it yet but she found the same drug in the other three victims," replied Chris.
"We have the maid coming in to talk to her," said Danny.
"Make sure that you find out everything she knows," said Harada going into his office.
"Danny and Chris, I think the woman you're looking for is here. She's at the front desk," yelled Kaleo.
"Are you Mrs. Lowe?" asked Danny going up to the desk.
"Yes, I am," replied the woman walking toward Danny and Chris.
"Could you come with us. We need to ask you some questions," said Chris walking toward an interview room.
"Mrs. Lowe, have a seat. We need to ask you what you may have seen or heard," said Danny.
"Have you seen anything different around the hotel?" asked Chris.
"There have been some people that normally would come there," said Mrs. Lowe.
"Like the man in the room?" asked Chris.
"Yes, like that man," replied Mrs. Lowe.
"How was he different?" asked Danny.
"He was just different. He gave me twenty dollars just for getting him some ice. The suit he was wearing look very expensive," replied the woman.
"Are you saying that he looked out of place in that hotel?" asked Danny.
"Yes, he looked out of place. You need to talk to Ray. He's always on the front desk and sees everything that is going on there," said Mrs. Lowe.
"Then maybe we should talk to Ray and see what he knows," said Chris.
"Thank you, Mrs. Lowe, for coming to see us," replied Danny.
"Well, Danny, I guess we have to go back to the hotel and talk to Ray about what he knows," replied Chris walking out the door.
Sean's Beach House
"Dad have you seen Sean? I went to the living room and he's not there. I looked to see if he went for a run on the beach, but he's not there either?" Carly asked her dad from the doorway.
"He had to go to work. He'll be home after a while," said Jake pouring some coffee.
"Dad, I want to see Nick. Can you take me to him or bring him here?" asked Carly sitting down at the table.
"Nick is staying with my sister. He doesn't want to be here. He's had a rough time this last year and is just now adjusting to things," replied Jake.
"You did tell him that I was getting out of the hospital?" asked Carly with a frown on her face.
"Yes, he knows you're home but he still doesn't want to come here," said Jake.
"Dad, I want you to get Nick and bring him here," Carly replied.
"The answer is no," replied Jake looking at Carly who was getting a mad.
"I want to see Nick," yelled Carly going toward Jake.
"Jake said no," exclaimed Sean coming through the door. "I heard everything and there is no way that Nick is coming here," replied an angry Sean.
"You're saying that my son doesn't want to see me, but why?" Carly asked.
"Don't say anything, Sean. Please I'm asking you, don't tell her why," begged Jake.
"I should have never agreed to this. I can't go on like this," replied Sean walking out on the balcony
"I should have never asked you but I wanted everything to be normal for Carly but I know that can never happen," Jake replied standing next to Sean.
"Jake, I can't stay here tonight. This is not right. She has to be told the truth," replied Sean.
"What do you mean the truth? What are you talking about?" asked Carly standing in the doorway.
"Don't you remember why you were in the hospital?" asked Sean turning to face Carly.
"Dr. Hilman told me that I had a breakdown because of a disease that affects the brain," replied Carly looking at Sean.
"Is that what Dr. Hilman told you? It was more than a breakdown. It was like you had completely lost your mind. I got a call on my radio to go home, that the police were all ready responding to the call," Sean replied.
"What was I doing?" asked Carly looking sad.
"You had a knife and you were trying to kill Nick but he had gotten away from you and locked himself in his bedroom. When I got here, you were trying to get the door opened. I had to fight with you to get the knife away from you," explained Sean.
"There's no way I could have done that. I wouldn't hurt Nick. He's my son. I love him too much," yelled Carly with an angry tone.
"Carly, I'm not going to argue with you about any of this. There is nothing more between us. The marriage has been over for a year and I have custody of Nick," said Sean calmly.
"No, that's not true. I remember we were trying to work things out," yelled Carly.
"We were, till that night. I had to move on with my life and so has Nick. He doesn't remember anything about that night and that how I want it," replied Sean with an angry tone in his voice.
"Sean, please don't go any further. I know I shouldn't have asked you to do this and I'm sorry," said Jake.
"That's okay, I agreed to this. I knew what I was doing but I have to go. There's someone waiting for me and I hope they understand," replied Sean picking up his bag from the living room.
"Sean, please don't go? We can make it work like before all of the problems started," cried Carly.
"It can't work, Carly. Sean has moved on with his life. You're not a part of it anymore," said Jake holding a crying and screaming Carly.
"I'm sorry Jake," replied Sean opening the door and walking out.
The Seashell Hotel
"I wish we didn't have to go back in there," said Danny.
"Aren't you used to women coming on to you?" asked Chris.
"No," replied Danny.
"What's the matter? Aren't they your type?" asked Chris.
"They would be if you liked hookers, but they're not my type," said Danny.
"Let's go in. We need to talk to Ray before he decides to leave," remarked Chris going in the door.
"Well look who's here. We've tried to talk to you for the last two days but when we get here you're gone," said Danny walking up to Ray.
"I was just leaving. I have to meet someone," Ray replied walking toward the door.
"When we get through asking you some questions, then you can leave but not till we say so," stated Chris showing Ray a chair.
"I don't know anything. My job is to take their money and give them a key to a room," replied Ray.
"Did you see who came in with the victim in room 115?" asked Danny.
"Like I said, I did see any one," replied Ray.
"Then I guess we have no choice but to take you down to the station where we can ask you some more questions. Till you give us what we want," said Chris smiling.
"Okay we don't have to do that. Some of the girls were talking about this new girl who's working the streets. She tried to get some of the others to join her in what she was doing. She told them that they could make as much as five hundred dollars a day. All they had to do was pick up these men that she knew was loaded and take them for everything they had," said Ray.
"Do you think she's capable of killing someone?" asked Danny.
"I don't think so but she has a boyfriend who looks like he could kill someone," replied Ray.
"Does he ever come around here?" asked Chris.
"Once in a while I see him with her," said Ray.
"The next time you see him, give us a call," requested Danny as he and Chris left.
Sean's Beach House
Jake knew that he had no choice. He would have to call Dr. Hilman in the morning. Sean had been right about Carly's recovery. Some how she had been able to fool the doctor into letting her go. He had been listening to the noise coming from her bedroom and he didn't like the sound of it. He could only imagine what Carly was doing for there had been the sound of breaking glass and he could hear her throwing things across the room. He tried to lie down on the sofa but he wasn't sure if he could close his eyes.
Carly opened the door and walked into the living room. She saw the body on the sofa sleeping. She slowly walked to the kitchen and found what she was looking for. She picked up the knife and walked back to the sofa. Raising her arm in the air, she stabbed the person on the sofa.
Jake could feel the warm blood coming from his shoulder and he tried not to move. He didn't know where Carly was but he knew that she had done this. He sat up and looked for her but she had gone back to the bedroom, still carrying the knife. He reached for the phone and dialed the police number for help. He had to hope that they would hurry, he didn't know how long he would last or if Carly got out of the house and went after Sean.
Honolulu Metro Police Dept.
"Danny, I have been thinking that one of us should maybe go undercover. We might be able to watch the murderer faster," Chris replied looking at Danny.
"Why are you looking at me? I get it, you want me to go undercover. There's no way I'll do it," said Danny frowning at Chris.
"I just thought that you would want to do it since you complained about me going undercover in that bank job," said Chris.
"That's okay, I'll let you do it. This is one that fits you more than me," replied Danny smiling.
"How is the investigation going Edwards and Gains?" asked Harada.
"We've decide that maybe one of us needs to go undercover," said Chris.
"I agree. I think that it may be the only way to catch this person so work on it and keep me informed on what you're doing," replied Harada.
"Hey Captain, have you heard anything from Sean?" asked John coming toward Harada.
"No, I haven't heard anything. Why do you ask?" asked Harada looking puzzled.
"Sean wasn't too sure about doing this. He was a little worried about Carly's state of mind. I went by his Beach House and his car was gone, and so was Jake's," replied John.
"John, I want you to drop whatever case you're working on. I want twenty-four hour surveillance on Sean's Beach House and keep me informed," said Harada going into his office.
"Linh, I need to put together a schedule for twenty-four hour surveillance on Sean's Beach House," replied John.
"I'll get a couple officers to help with it. I can pull surveillance with you." Linh said.
"I'm going out to there now to start watching the Beach House. That will give you time to set up the next watch," John Replied walking out the door.
"If I'm going undercover, I guess I had better changed into something that a rich guy would wear," said Chris.
The Penthouse
The last few days seemed like blur to Max as she stood there, waiting for the elevator to stop. She wanted to believe Sean, when he told that he and Carly were through, but it still hurt. She had decided that she would go on with her life and not worry about Sean. She had two little girls to raise; they were her life now. Her thinking was interrupted by the doors opening. She stepped out and walked up to the front door of the penthouse. She pressed the code into the alarm and the door opened. The quietness in the room surprised her. She yelled out Miranda name, but no one answered. She started toward the kitchen when she saw the note on the door. She read and gave a sigh of relief. Miranda had taken the girls to her house. Max picked up the phone and called Miranda to let her know that she was home. She noticed the flashing light from the answering machine. She knew the voice as soon as she heard it. Sean wanted to talk to her, but she didn't know if she wanted to talk to him.
Sean pulled into the driveway of the hotel, he needed to talk to Max. He had tried to explain everything to her at the Beach House, but he didn't think that she believed him. He had to try again, he couldn't lose Max.
As he got out of the car, he didn't see the woman pull into the parking lot. She got out of the car and followed Sean into the hotel lobby. She stayed back so that he couldn't see her. She watched as he got on the elevator.
The Seashell Hotel
"This is Ray at the hotel. She's here working the hotel," replied Ray hanging up the phone.
"That was our friend. She's there now. Are you ready?" asked Danny.
"Yes, but this isn't me," complained Chris coming out of the bathroom.
"You look just right for the job and those rings make you look like you have money," replied Danny.
Danny and Chris drove to the hotel. He had to smile as he watched Chris going into the front door of the hotel. He would be able to hear everything that was said because of the wire.
Chris went to the front desk and asked for a room. He didn't notice the woman who came up behind him till she spoke.
"Would you like some company?" asked the woman.
"I guess so, my room or yours?" asked Chris.
"Your room is fine. My name is Candy, do you want some?" she asked Chris.
"We'll see when we get to the room," replied Chris.
Upon hearing Chris, Danny knew to move to the hotel lobby. Ray saw him and gave him Chris's room number. He watched carefully for the man involved with the woman. Then Danny noticed a man walking toward the room where Chris was, he followed the man who stood just outside the door.
Chris watched as the woman poured him a drink from the bottle that had been sitting on the table. He lifted the glass to his mouth and he could smell the strange odor in the glass.
"Why don't you get comfortable, take your coat off. What do you do for a living?" She asked Chris.
"I own a pineapple and a sugar cane factory on Maui," replied Chris who was starting to stagger from what was in the glass.
Danny noticed that the man he was watching was no longer in the hallway, so he had to assume that he was in Chris room. He could hear Chris talking to someone other than the woman. Danny pulled his gun and kicked the door in. Chris lay on the bed with a gun pointed at his head.
"Police, put your hands up in the air," yelled Danny as Chris jumped up from the bed and pulled his gun.
"You're under arrest for the murder of John Mason," said Chris putting the cuffs on the guy.
The Penthouse
Sean stood at the front door of the penthouse. Even though he and Max had talked at the Beach House, he still wasn't sure if he had said the right things. He told himself that Max was the only one he loved.
Max slowly moved around the penthouse, everything that she looked at reminder of Sean. She noticed the towel that had been left on the floor by Sean. She picked up the towel and walked to the bathroom. She could still smell Sean's cologne on the towel as she held it in her arms. She realized that she loved Sean no matter what happened.
Outside Sean stood in the hallway, he opened the door and walked in. He sat the bag down by the door and walked into the living room. He could hear Max crying as he walked closer to the bathroom. He stood there in the doorway watching her holding the towel. Sean walked up behind Max and wrapped his arms around her.
"Sean ? She asked.
"Yes, I love you to much to leave you," said Sean holding Max.
Sean and Max slowly walked to the bedroom and closed the door behind them.
Sean's Beach House
John and Linh sat patiently waiting in the car. They had been there for more than six hours and there was no sign of anyone was there. John walked up to the door and rang the bell but no one answered the door. Now John was worried so he went to the garage; Sean's car wasn't there. He had noticed that Jake's car was also gone. He went back to the Beach House and using the key that Sean gave him and he opened the door.
The quietness of the room bothered John. He walked in further and Linh followed him. She looked around the room; she could hear a faint noise but she didn't know where it was coming from.
"John, I hear something like a person moaning, it's very faint sounding," replied Linh.
"I heard it too, look around and see what you can find," said John going toward the balcony.
As John turned to walk back into the room, he saw Jake lying on the floor. "Linh, over here. I found Jake on the floor and he's been hurt," said John kneeling down beside of him.
"This is officer Tamiya. I need an ambulance to 108 North Shore," replied Linh.
"Jake, who did this?" asked John.
"Carly," moaned Jake.
"Linh, look around and see if you can find her," said John.
"There's no one here," said Linh.
"She must have taken Jake's car. She has to be looking for Sean. Call the station and have then issue an APB for Carly. I should call Sean and let him know," said John.

She followed the woman as she entered the elevator.
"Excuse me, this is a private elevator. Do you have an appointment with Max?" Miranda asked pushing the button.
"Yes I do," replied the woman.
"I'll have to check with Max before letting you into the penthouse," replied Miranda.
"That's fine. I can wait in the hallway," said the woman.
As the elevator door opened Miranda walked out and went toward the alarm. From where the woman stood she could see Miranda put in the code to open the door. Once Miranda was out of sight, the woman moved to where no one could see her.
Sean and Max lay in bed, his arms wrapped around her. She laid her head on his chest, her fingers slowly moving across his torso. Sean leaned over slowly, softly kissing Max on the lips.
"I'm sorry that I didn't believe you at the Beach House. You told me that you loved me and not Carly," said Max kissing Sean back.
"Now that you know how much I love you, there's no more doubts?" asked Sean smiling down at her.
"No more doubts," Max replied kissing Sean back.
"Max, are you expecting someone?" Sean asked sitting up in bed.
"I heard someone out there too. Oh no, it must be Miranda. I forgot that I called her and asked her to bring the girls home," said Max smiling.
"I guess we need to get dressed before Miranda comes in here," replied Sean pulling on his pants.
"I'll go out in the living room and keep her busy while you get dressed," Max replied smiling as she left.
"Max, do you have an appointment today? There was a woman on the elevator. I asked her to wait in the hallway till I talked to you," replied Miranda looking out in the hallway.
"Is she still there?" asked Max as Miranda opened the door and looked.
"There's no one there. I guess she gave up and went back down," said Miranda.
"Don't let any one in here if you don't know who they are. I need to leave, Max. I have to check on Jake. He's been watching Carly while I'm gone," said Sean opening the door.
"You be careful. You don't know what she might do," replied Max giving Sean a kiss on the lips.
"So you're the woman in Sean's life now. I won't let you have my husband, I'll do anything to stop you," said Carly softly as she watched Sean step into the elevator.
He waited for the elevator door to open. He needed to go back to the Beach House to check on Carly and see how Jake was doing. He had tried not to show it to Max as he had not wanted her worrying about anything. He walked slowly to his car. The last few days had been rough on him. He sat there wishing it was over.

Carly walked slowly to the front door and entered the numbers into the alarm. She watched the red light turn green, and then she heard the door open.
"Sean, did you forget something?" asked Max as she heard the door opened. She had started for the front door when she saw it opening and a woman walked in with a gun.
"What do you want?" asked Max.
"So you're the one," replied Carly walking toward Max.
"Who are you? I asked what you wanted," replied Max following Carly.
"I thought you would know. I'm Carly Harrison and what I want is Sean back," she replied pointing the gun at Max.
"Whatever life you had with Sean ended last year. You even filed for a divorce while Sean tried to make it work for Nick's sake but you had him so confused that he didn't know what to do," answered Max.
"That's not true. He would have stayed with me if you had left him alone. He would come home at night and all he would talk about was Max. I thought that Max was one of the guys at the station till I found out that Max was a woman. So you decided that you couldn't find a man, that you would steal someone else's husband," said Carly walking around the room.
"That's not true. I didn't steal Sean. As for having a man, I had one. I was married for several years before he died in a plane crash. He was Sean's commanding officer when he was in the military. I knew Sean before he ever knew you," replied Max watching Carly as she moved around the room.
Sean started the car and was slowly backing out of the space when he heard his cell phone ringing.
"This is Harrison," he answered.
"Sean, it's John. Where are you?" asked John.
"I'm in the parking lot of the Hawaiian Hotel. Why do you want to know?" asked Sean frowning.
"Stay there. I'm on my way over. Something has happened at your beach house. We were watching it and noticed there was no movement. When we went inside to check, we found Jake on the floor. He had been stabbed. He told us that Carly did it. He told us that she's out of her mind, that she's gone crazy. She stole Jake's car and no one knows where she went," replied John.
Sean got out of the car and started back for the hotel doors but he noticed a car that looked familiar. He went over and looked at it. That's Jake's car, he thought. He could hear his phone ringing again.
"Harrison," he answered while running toward the hotel.
"Sean, Linh was looking around the house, she found a picture of Max. It looks like someone used a knife on it. Sean, she's going after Max. I'll call Harada and request backup to the hotel," said John.
"I just found Jake's car in the parking lot. I need a SWAT team here now," said Sean running to the front door of the hotel.
"I'm on my way," replied John.
"Jeff," yelled Sean running to the elevator.
"What's wrong Sean?" asked Jeff coming toward Sean.
"Get your security people to the penthouse. We may have a hostage situation," replied Sean.
"Who's the hostage?" asked Jeff running toward Sean.
"It's Max. We think my ex-wife has gone over the deep end," said Sean as the door open.
"How did she get in this elevator... unless she went up with someone," replied Jeff.
Sean paced back and forth as the elevator went to the top floor. As the elevator stopped, he slowly moved as the doors opened. He couldn't let Carly know that he was there. He was afraid that she would do something to Max. He quietly moved down the hallway to the kitchen entrance. He found the door locked, he would have to keep looking.
How could Carly have gotten into the penthouse? he wondered. Then he realized that Miranda said there was a woman on the elevator with her. It had to be Carly and she must have watched Miranda to get the code. He turned at the sound of the elevator doors opening. He watched as Jeff and his security team walked out of the elevator.
"Sean, do you know who has Max hostage?" Jeff asked giving orders to his men.
"Yes, It's Carly Harrison," replied Sean.
"But that's your ex-wife. How did she get access to the elevator?" asked Jeff.
"I think she followed Miranda. She told us that there was a woman on the elevator and she told her that she had an appointment with Max but I looked in the hallway and I didn't find anyone," replied Sean answering his phone.
"Sean, this is John, I'm down in the lobby. The SWAT team is setting up across from the penthouse. I'll be there in a few minutes," John stated.
Max watched as Carly walked around the room. Carly picked up the photo of Sean holding the girls.
"Sean always wanted to have more children but the doctor said I couldn't," replied Carly.
"The girls are mine. I'm adopting them. Why did you ask me that? You thought that maybe they were Sean's too," said Max.
"I know that Sean wanted out of the marriage," said Carly pacing around the room.
"That's not true. Sean did everything to try and make his marriage work," replied Max.
"Sean was never home. He was gone all night. He tried to tell me that it was because of work but I knew better," yelled Carly.
"You don't know that," Max calmly replied.
"You know where he was because he was with you," Carly screamed at Max.
"No, he wasn't with me," snapped Max at Carly.
"You waited till I was in the hospital before you tried anything," replied Carly with an angry tone in her voice.
"You don't know what you're talking about. I wouldn't do anything like that. Sean and I have been friends for a long time. He came to me because he was hurting and didn't know what to do. I only tried to help him as a friend but before we knew it, I realized that I loved him," replied Max.
Outside the Penthouse
"Sean, is there another way into the penthouse?" John asked.
"There is but I've already checked it and the door is locked," said Sean.
"Where's the door? Maybe we can get a locksmith to open it," asked John.
"It's the outside door for the kitchen," said Sean.
"I'll get the locksmith, you need to get to Carly and try and talk to her. We know that Max is in there but we don't know who else is," said John.
Max heard the phone ringing, she knew that it was Sean's cell phone from the ring. Carly moved toward the phone and picked it up.
"What do you want?" Carly asked.
"It's Sean. I need you to put the phone on the intercom, Carly, so that we can talk to you," said Sean.
"Why should I?" asked Carly.
"I need to be able to talk to you. I just want to help you, Carly," pleaded Sean.
"Why do you want to help me? You don't care what happens to me," replied Carly.
"Listen to his voice, Carly. Sean does care and you can hear it," pleaded Max.
"He doesn't care about me any more and I know that. I thought that if I hurt the one person in his life now... but I can't," cried Carly.
"Carly, I can help you if you let me," Max pleaded.
"There's no way you can help me. I'm never going to get any better," cried Carly as the tears rolled down her face.
"Max, what's going on in there," yelled Sean his voice coming over the intercom.
"Sean, I'm in the kitchen. What's going on in the living room?" asked John.
"I don't know, but I can hear someone crying," replied Sean.
"I'm looking through a crack in the door. It's Carly crying. Sean she has a gun," yelled John moving through the door.
"Carly, you don't have to do this," cried Max tears falling down her face.
"Yes I do. Tell Nick that I love him," cried Carly putting the gun to her head and pulling the trigger.
"No," yelled John running across the living room as Sean came through the front door. He stood there looking in horror as he watched Carly slowly fall to the floor.
Max knelt down beside the lifeless body of Carly. She took the gun and handed it to John. Sean slowly walked to where Max was holding her. He knelt down beside Max, taking Carly in his arms; he hugged her and gave her a kiss. He could feel the tears as they fell from his eyes.
"Why Carly? You didn't have to do this," Sean asked
"A part of her made her do it. She told me that she had been going through a lot of pain in the last months. She couldn't take it anymore," replied a sad Max as she watched Sean stand up and walk away.
She followed him to the balcony and put her arms around him as he stood watching the waves hit the rocks. She could feel the hurt he was going through. It would hurt for a while but it would go away.
