The outlying farm had been under surveillance for weeks after a delivery man had reported suspicious activity, the ATF taking over when the investigation uncovered a possible arms deal in the works.

After one of the minor participants was detained and convinced that co-operation was in his best interest, they knew exactly who, what and when.

The raid went down without a hitch, the hostiles taken into custody, and now all that remained was the clean-up. And, since team four had another pending case, team seven were left to take care of that duty.

The main building had been cleared out, weapons and other contraband loaded for transport, Vin and JD were checking the outbuildings and Ezra was doing his best to do as little as possible of what he considered grunt work. Chris had just finished the inventory of the items being seized when Vin's voice came over the link.

"Ah...Chris..." he paused, "I think you'd better come down here, I'm in the small shed on the south side."

"On my way," Chris replied and headed out, followed closely by Buck.

It was about fifty feet to the shabby building, the path narrow and muddy, but Chris and Buck reached the door quickly. The buildings had been cleared before the other team had left, but it was possible that something had been missed.

As they approached, Chris called out, "Vin?"

"In here, Chris."

Buck turned to Chris, raising his eyebrows at the odd note in Vin's voice. He moved to the side of the door, squatted, and slowly pushed it open, careful to remain hidden. He quickly peeked inside. Waited a second or two and peeked again.

Nothing seemed amiss.

"Quit screwing around, Buck," Vin's exasperated voice floated out to the two men who were lurking by the door.

They straightened and entered, eyes scanning the small, dim space as they stepped inside. As their eyes adjusted, they saw cages...row after row of cages. Buck leaned over and peeked into the nearest one.

"Oh, shit..." he muttered.

He turned towards Chris. "Maybe you should wait outside..."

He was too late. Chris had already leaned over the one where he stood and was looking inside. He stood up, face paling as he realized what was inside. He turned, blindly heading for the door, bumping into the frame in his haste to get out.

"Damn," Buck muttered.

Vin was approaching. "What's up with Chris?" He gestured towards the door where the obviously distraught man had exited just moments before.

Buck looked at Vin and realized that he had no idea about Chris's aversion.

"Um, Vin..." Buck cleared his throat, "Chris has this...ah, thing about rabbits."

Vin turned to stare at Buck. "Chris is afraid of bunnies?"

Buck shook his head, "No, not afraid," he paused, "but he hates seeing them...being near them." He paused again, wondering if he should say more, then realized that this was Vin. He checked to see that no one else was near enough to overhear.

"Chris had just bought a rabbit for Adam..." he choked up then, and knew by Vin's expression that he'd said enough.

"Aw, hell..." Vin swore, "and I called him down here."

"You didn't know."

"I should've."

"Not unless he's told you and, well, you and I both know that Chris ain't exactly the talkative type."

Vin just shook his head, then remembered the cages full of furry creatures. "What the heck are we gonna do with them...there must be a couple hundred of 'em in there."

"We'll have to find something to do with them, at least until these guys are convicted, can't exactly sieze them as contraband. Can we?"

JD approached then, offering a solution to the problem. "We can call the humane society, they'll know..." He paused then, "hey, Vin, do you think I could keep one, you know, to give Casey for Easter?"

"Sure, I guess... but it's a couple of weeks away, what are you gonna do with it 'til then?"

"Yeah, hadn't thought of that." JD was unaware of Larabee's reaction as he asked, "I don't suppose I could keep it out at the ranch, maybe in the barn 'til then?"

"NO!" Buck replied, louder than he'd intended.

At JD's crestfallen look, Vin broke in. "Sure, JD..." he started to reply, pausing at Buck's look.

"'S okay, Buck, I'll put it in the back stall behind Peso's, he'll never even know it's there..."

"Chris don't like rabbits, JD." Buck answered the unspoken question in the young man's eyes.

"Okay..." JD muttered, then looked to Vin. "Only if you're sure it's allright."

Vin nodded, and they returned to work, finishing up and heading back to town, except JD who had volunteered to stay and wait for the volunteers from the humane society to arrive. He wandered through the cages and finally picked a small black bunny for Casey.

About a week and a half later...

Vin woke, aware almost instantly that he was alone in the bed. The next thing he realized was that it was late, much later than he usually rose, even on a weekend.

He turned, feeling a sharp, but pleasant ache that reminded him of the reason he's slept so soundly...Chris.

Their lovemaking last night had been intense... bordering on rough.

No surprise there, Vin had purposely baited Chris last night, trying to get through the wall the blond had been hiding behind for the past couple of weeks. He'd succeeded, despite Chris's attempts to distance himself.

Over the past months since they had become lovers, they had made love in numerous ways and at various levels of intensity as they explored the possibilities. And they had done so at every opportunity, until about two weeks ago when Chris suddenly pulled away, seemingly not wanting any contact.

At first Vin was completely at a loss. Then, after the incident at the farm, he realized that as the anniversary of the deaths of Sarah and Adam approached, Chris was feeling the pain of their loss. Now, since they had become involved, his guilt about moving on had left Vin to deal with a man who was torn between past and present.

The man he needed...here and now.

So he pushed and pushed, and, finally, last night was able to open the floodgate. And having opened up the gate, he gladly accepted the violence of the catharsis he'd sparked. It wasn't the kind of sex he'd want every night, but, on occasion....

Vin smiled again, despite the pain. He was sore, but he'd been used harder in the past and knew that there was no lasting damage done. He reached out and pulled Chris's pillow over, inhaling the scent that was uniquely Larabee. He realized that the pillow and the side of the bed where Chris slept, was cold. Chris had been up for a while.

Vin gingerly rolled out of bed, moving carefully to the bath. He showered, dressed, and headed to the kitchen.

The coffee was hot - the pot half empty and plenty strong. Vin dosed his cup with extra sugar and poured in some cream and wandered towards the den. He arrived and, contrary to his expectations, found it was empty, as was the rest of the house.

He realized with dread that Chris must be out in the barn.

Shit his mind screamed, please don't be in the back stall... as he pulled on his boots and ran out the back door.

The barn was silent as he entered, just the soft nickers as Peso realized that he was there. The horses had been fed, and looking inside, he could see that the stalls had been cleaned. Chris was not in sight, despite the evidence that he was near - his shirt, draped over the rail inside the door. Vin took a deep breath and headed for the back stall.

The stall where JD's Easter present for Casey was residing.

Where the caged rabbit had lived for the past week and a half.

Vin pushed the door open and saw Chris...he was sitting on the floor against the back wall, shirtless, cuddling the small black rabbit to his chest as tears ran slowly down his face.

"Chris..." Vin began, "God...I'm so sorry...I shouldn't have brought it here..."

The blond looked up, unaware of Vin's entrance until he'd spoken. His face, while tear streaked, held a serenity that Vin hadn't seen there for some time.

"You okay, pard?" Vin whispered as he slid down the wall to sit next to Chris.

"Yeah, I am." Chris's voice was soft, and a bit rough with emotion.

"I should'na let JD keep the rabbit here..."

"No, it's okay, Vin," Chris paused, "I think I needed to get this out, to..." he stopped, knowing that Vin would understand his intent where his words were failing him.

Vin leaned over, wrapping an arm around the bare shoulders. He nodded towards the small rabbit. "He's a cute little critter."

"Yeah...that's why I'd bought one."

"I'm sure he would have loved it."

"He did...I...we, gave it to him three days before..."

Chris looked up then, into Vin's eyes. "Are YOU all right? I was pretty rough last night."

"Yeah, you were." He cut Chris off before he could say more. "But it was...amazing." He grinned then. "Not something for everyday...but, old man, it was something!"

Chris grinned back, still cuddling the rabbit. Vin watched for a moment, then couldn't help but comment.

"You having a good time with that bunny?"

"You jealous?"

"Might be iffen you keep it up..."

Chris laughed then, reaching up to slide the bunny into the cage, dislodging Vin's arm. He leaned back against the wall, then turned to face Vin.

"I know I've been a shit lately."

"S' okay..." Vin whispered. "I know how hard it can be."

Chris nodded, then reached to grasp the fine-boned chin, turning the face to him and gently kissing the soft lips, still swollen from the previous night's activities.

He broke off quickly as he realized how cold he'd gotten sitting shirtless in the cool barn.

"Let's go inside." He rose, reached to take Vin's hands, and pulled the slighter man to his feet.

Vin barely held in a groan as the roughly used muscles protested, but Chris saw the quickly surpressed grimace.

"You're really sore, aren't you?"

"Just a bit," Vin replied, still smiling as he remembered how it had felt to have Chris pounding into him in utter release of the emotions that he'd tried so hard to deny for so long.

"Well," Chris proclaimed, "we'll just have to do something about that."

They closed up the barn and headed for the house.

After a long soak in the jacuzzi followed by a massage, Vin's muscles finally felt like they were back in the proper places and likely to stay put without too much ado. He groaned softly, this time in utter relaxation as the strong fingers of his partner stroked down his naked, oil slicked back.

"Mmmm."

"Feeling a bit better?" Chris asked, already knowing the answer. Vin's body that he'd been working on for the past forty minutes was completely relaxed.

"Yeaaaah."

"And articulate too," Chris teased softly.

"Yep."

"I don't know about you but I'm getting hungry..." Chris purred, then leaned over and ran his tongue around the ear that peeked out from the long hair.

"Better not be thinking about chewin' on my ear, Larabee." The lazy drawl drifted up, caressing the blond's senses.

"Nah...got an appetite for other things," Chris whispered back, as his need for food was suddenly less important than other appetites.

"Yeah...what ya got in mind?" Vin asked, then gasped as the warm tongue ran down his spine, into the cleft of his ass and rimmed the relaxed pucker of muscle hidden there.

"Aaahhh..." Vin's ability to form words was lost in the fire that raced up his spine, "Mmmm, Oh, God...don't stop, Chris."

The tongue delved deeper as oiled fingers caressed the heavy sac then traced a path of delicious pleasure up his already hard member. The body beneath him writhed in helpless ecstacy, bringing a smug smile to the older man's lips. He pulled back, kissing his way up the round cheeks, licking and biting gently, wanting to devour the savory body he held.

"God, Vin..." Chris breathed, inhaling the musk and slight scent of almonds from the oil. His fingers now traveled where his tongue had been, sliding inside the slick hole, finding it already relaxed and ready for him. He slid a long finger in and brushed the gland inside. Vin's body bucked again, harder as the finger stroked a second and third time.

"Yer killing me, Larabee..." Vin growled, pushing back against the finger, "I need more...you...inside me...now."

"You sure?" Chris teased, even as he rose, lifted the hips and positioned himself at the more than ready entrance.

"Yes!" Vin rasped, as he pushed back, impaling himself on the thick hard shaft.

"Guess you are." Chris smiled and began to move...slowly. Pulling out most of the way, then pushing back in, gliding easily.

"Move..." Vin begged, needing more contact, he pushed back again, taking the shaft all the way inside and still pushing for more.

It was too much, Chris could hold back no longer...he pulled out and pushed back in, then again and again, harder...faster...soon both men were lost in the pounding, ever increasing, rhythm. Then even that was lost as they went over the edge of reason into the void. There was only sensation and breathless ecstacy, a oneness of heart and mind. They cried out in unison, as they fell into the sweet darkness of oblivion.

Time went by, bodies cooled, and the sun moved farther into the west, but neither man noticed, or cared. They were content, sated, and, mostly, they were together.
